Lecture: Flow, Creativity, and Orgasm, 8 pm
We are happiest when we are in a state of flow, when we are so involved in what we are doing that time either flies or slows and everything else falls away. But entering flow requires practice and can be elusive.

Join me for a dynamic discussion of flow, creativity, and orgasm. Sharing her personal story as a poet and underwater photographer along with insights from Steven Kotler’s book The Rise of Superman and the practice of Orgasmic Meditation (OM), you will learn ways to more readily enter a flow state and perform optimally in your life. The practice of OM sets up the conditions for flow by honing your focus, as well as trust in what you’re feeling in your body moment by moment, so that in your life you can skate on that magical edge between skill and surrender where flow occurs.

Friends In Deed

Cost: $10 at the door

Friday, November 7, 2014   Great Barrington, MA
TurnON Great Barrington, 7:30 pm
TurnON: [turn{on}]
verb (something that happens in the body)
Increased body heat
Tingling and chills
Flushing or heat in your cheeks
Feeling of being awake and alive

We believe TurnON is the ignition that leads to a more of what we really want in life. It is the first step to knowing what's possible. And, it comes when we get real about the powerful stuff of relationships, intimacy, desire, etc.

So, we started an evening event designed specifically to give people the opportunity to feel TurnON in themselves. It's an evening where, through only talking, we begin to experience these exhilarating, energizing, often ignored feelings -- referred to as TurnON. A room of people engage in honest, humorous, playful conversation around topics we mostly only consider having in our head.

Through 3 guided, round-robin style games, express yourself and gain new (and maybe surprising) insight into yourself and others. Fear, longing, taboo, love... Be with others who are willing to express it openly and be seen for who they really are. It's like a giant exhale when the rest of the world is asking you to hold it in.

The evening also includes a brief description of the practice of Orgasmic Meditation, and information on where to learn more.

Please arrive at 7:15 pm to register. Cost: $10 at the door.

Berkshire Festival of Women Writers Event:
Conversations with the Sea: A Collaborative
Presentation in Words and Pictures, 7:00 PM
With: Hannah Fries, Marie-Elizabeth Mali,
and Sara Parrilli.
Description: Mali's underwater photography and
poetry has been inspired by the plight of sharks,
rays, and other sea creatures worldwide. Fries and
Parrilli were inspired by the albatrosses of Midway
Island, who feed at the plastic-filled Great Pacific
Garbage Patch, to embark on a multimedia
correspondence of poetry and visual art. Through
poetry and visual art, the three artists will create a
conversation inspired by the tragedies and
beauties of the sea. The presentations will be
followed by a discussion and Q&A on process
and collaboration.
Location: Centennial Hall at Miss Hall's School
492 Holmes Rd, Pittsfield
Cost: Free

Hip Lit: How Innovative Reading Series
Are Revamping the Literary Scene
Event Description: How can literature hold its own
against mass media and pop culture? Reading series
that showcase fine work in inventive ways can
build dynamic arts communities and help authors
promote and popularize their books among diverse
new audiences. In this lively panel, curators and
hosts of wildly popular series such as Literary
Death Match, The Rumpus, Page Meets Stage, and
Rain Taxi discuss how to deploy ingenious PR
strategies, curate creatively, turn events into hip
hangouts, and keep things fresh. With: Melissa
Stein, Todd Zuniga, and Stephen Elliott.

AWP Conference Panel:
From Sea to Sea: Poets on the Power of Water
Event Description: Four poets and a poet/undersea
photographer will explore the power of the ocean
as myth, metaphor, and the great connector. Its
veryexistence tempts us to venture out and seek
the unknown, to make our way upon the surface
of a world that is entirely other. We eat from its
stock. We swim in it. People drown in it. We relish
and fear it; we play in it. These poets will reflect
on the sea, ocean, the waterways of the world,
and their shores. With: Laura McCullough, David
St. John, John Hoppenthaler, and Matthew
Nienow. Time: 10:30 - 11:45 am
Location: Room 608, Convention Center, Level 6

to be covered: narrative-friendly forms, lyric-friendly forms,

Marie-Elizabeth Mali will host
Page Meets Stage is a monthly poetry series that pairs
more page-oriented poets with poets who come from
a more performative background. Both poets are on stage at the same time and read back and forth, poem for poem, sometimes answering each other and other times taking the conversation in a different direction.
